Chick-fil-A®
Restaurants - Closed On Sunday "Our decision to close on Sunday was our way of honoring God and directing our attention to things more important than our business. If it took seven days to make a living with a restaurant, then we needed to be in some other line of work. Through the years, I have never wavered from that position.” - S. Truett Cathy
One of the country’s leading businessmen, S. Truett Cathy - Founder and Chairman of Chick-fil-A® Inc., invented the boneless chicken sandwich, pioneered fast-food restaurants in shopping malls, and now operates the third-largest quick-service chicken restaurant company in America (whose per unit sales for free-standing restaurants are higher than industry giants like McDonald’s and Burger King), while remaining closed on Sundays and closing earlier than most other fast-food restaurants. Cathy attributes much of his success in life to his commitment to serve others, particularly young people. Cathy is well-loved by the scores of young men whom he taught Sunday school for the past 50 years. He has also helped thousands of young people (employees, foster children, and others) through his WinShape Centre® Foundation established in 1984 to help “shape winners.” Truett Cathy pioneered the first-ever fast-food restaurant to operate in a shopping mall (Greenbriar Mall, Atlanta, Ga. 1967). “I see no conflict between biblical principles and good business practice,” Cathy said in a recent interview with NBC Nightly News (July 14, 2002). “Corporate America needs faith in something more than the bottom line.” |
